Health Sciences Campus Welcomes New Director of Major Gifts

Gus Sonnenberg is a 1997 graduate of the UMKC School of Law

Gus Sonnenberg, a 15-year fundraising veteran, has joined the UMKC Foundation as senior director of major gifts for the Health Sciences Campus. He will work specifically with the schools of Nursing and Health Studies, Medicine and Pharmacy. (more…)

Crescendo Raises More Than $650,000 for Student Scholarships

Sunderland Foundation Gives $30 Million to UMKC Health Sciences District Project

New cutting-edge educational facility will serve as a catalyst for growth and position the district to become a premier academic medical district

The University of Missouri-Kansas City announced a $30 million gift today from the Sunderland Foundation to help fund a new state-of-the-art medical and dentistry building in the UMKC Health Sciences District. The project will escalate momentum for expanding the district into a major regional academic medical center that can provide innovative health care, attract top medical students and researchers and generate billions of dollars in jobs and economic development, while advancing care for the underserved. Alumna Amanda Davis begins her role as president Nov. 2

Amanda Davis (MPA ’02) has been named the new University of Missouri-Kansas City chief advancement officer and president of the UMKC Foundation beginning Nov. 2. Davis has extensive experience in university fundraising, including the creation of advancement infrastructure and the development and execution of a comprehensive $2 billion campaign. (more…)

Smith Scholarship Creates Opportunity through $2.5 Million Endowment

Alumnus’ gift will aid generations of students

Roy Smith (B.A. ’85) did not have a lot of academic direction before coming to UMKC. He grew up in Kansas City and thought he might want to be a photographer. After a stop at a nearby art school where he’d been accepted, he walked across the street to UMKC.

“It was open enrollment,” he says. “I was sort of stumbling around and someone helped me get registered and found me a job as a work study.” (more…)
